EDITOR'S LETTER
Luxury is often equated with having a wonderful home. Webster's defines luxury in numerous ways: "The use and enjoyment of the best that offers the most physical comfort and satisfaction" is but one definition. Faith Popcorn speaks of the "cashmerization of the home"—the trend of people spending more time and money making their homes beautiful and luxurious because they are spending much more time there today than they did 10 years ago.
In this issue we feature homes that have a timeless quality. We visit with architect and interior designer Henri Jova and his partner David Rinehart, an architectural designer in his own right, who live in a beautifully appointed four-bedroom modern in West Palm. The house has "pared-down Georgian/Bermudian references" and unfolds into spacious interiors filled with a lifetime of collecting. Interior designer Diane Burn's residence also has a timeless appeal from living and collecting all over the world. Her circa-1925 Spanish Colonial cottage has the best of old-world elegance.
Also in this issue we feature living rooms/sitting areas from four very different interiors that have previously appeared on our pages. Although not designed "today," each space has a lasting quality about it: See what the homeowners or designers say about their design.
A timelessness of another sort is seen in the Leslie and Ed Sacks' home in Jupiter. The beautiful colors in their Mediterranean-style residence are reflective of Leslie's personality. What is even more joyous is how the house looks during the holiday season. Enjoyed by family and friends, her collection of holiday ornaments transforms their home into a memorable, larger-than-life site that gives each visitor "a photo stamp in their memories."
On the "New" front, our fashion feature highlights the crossover fashion designers are making into home decor. PBC&G is also starting two new columns, one geared to the timeless luxury of jewelry and the other to the beauty of cars ("High Performance").
Known for his timeless fashion couture collections, Ralph Lauren often comments that his inspiration comes from his car collection. We agree, cars are an important ingredient to luxurious living.
If you need inspiration in choosing just the right holiday gift, turn to "Presents of Mind". We've selected gifts from the extreme luxury category for five different personality types. Do you see yourself or a loved one there?
Wishing you a joyous season ahead.
